Commonwealth Games 2018

The Gold Coast Commonwealth Games have got off to a bright, toe-tapping start thanks to an opening ceremony filled with colour and depth.

More than 4,500 athletes from 71 nations and territories will compete for 275 gold medals at this year’s Games which are taking place over the next few weeks on the Gold Coast.

More than 2.4 billion people – nearly a third of the world – will be represented over 12 days of sporting action, so it is of vital importance that these world class athletes are hosted in a village where their health and safety is of up most importance to ensure they can compete to the best of their ability. It takes a team of medical experts to make sure the athletes and coaches are looked after, and we are happy to see that medical imaging services are being provided in case of any injuries.

Queensland X-ray will provide ultrasound and plain x-ray services at nominated GC2018 venues as well as more complex imaging services, like MRI and CT scans, at their Queensland X-Ray Gold Coast Private Hospital and Southport practices.

Almost 15,000 people will be working as volunteers to make sure that everything runs smoothly, and 1.5 billion people will be watching around the world.

This Commonwealth Games is the largest sporting event that Australia has hosted for a decade – and the largest one EVER to come to the Gold Coast – so it will certainly be a very exciting spectacle.
