MRI

Tesla (T) is the unit of measurement quantifying the strength of a magnetic field.  Most MRI machines generate a magnetic field strength of 1.5 Tesla, however new developments have allowed for this to be doubled, and at Rouse Hill Medical Imaging we have just installed a GE 3T MRI.

What are the benefits of a 3T MRI?

The magnetic field produced by using 3T yields exceptional anatomic detail.  Thus, if a picture is worth a thousand words, the 3 Tesla MRI is an encyclopedia.  The increased image clarity revealed by 3T is particularly beneficial for pathological conditions involving the brain, spine, and musculoskeletal system.

The benefits of the 3T scanner are not confined to Magnetic Resonance Imaging.  The increased spatial resolution of the 3T scanner allows for high-quality vascular imaging giving a clearing image for your diagnosis.

Usain Bolt is forced to undergo an MRI scan after injuring his left hamstring while he was running for Jamaica in the 4×100 metre relay on Saturday August 12th 2017 at the IAAF World Championships in London.

As a result, the soon-to-be 31-year-old will need medical imaging to determine the extent of the damage on Sunday. His prognosis has yet to be revealed to the public.

There is a wide spectrum of hamstring-related injuries that can occur in athletes, especially those who compete in sports where sprinting or high speed skilled movements are involved. Injuries occur when the three muscles which make up the hamstring group undergo too much strain and therefore cramp up or develop tears. The most common sports where hamstring injuries occur are soccer, rugby, track, tennis and field hockey.
